As an avid cyclist I often tried to fit in a bike ride before work—often on my way to work. At that point, all the cycling backpacks I could find were bulky, uncomfortable, and had way too many gimmicky features. There was obviously a need for a lightweight, super-versatile backpack that allowed you to get a ride in without fighting with your equipment.
I brought the design concept to iconic, local bag-maker Timbuk2 and they were into producing it. Thus was born the perfect pack for serious cyclists: The Raider Pack. Built with subtle but functional features, it allows riders the freedom to ride comfortably while keeping all the work stuff separate from the ride stuff. It's discretely reflective for rides before sunrise, and it weighs less than a pound.
The Industrial Designers Society of America awarded The Raider Pack an lnternational Design Excellence Award and it is one of Timbuk2's all-time best sellers.
"Even in the winter it has enough room to carry everything. My commute is about 15 miles and is pretty hilly so I'm out of the saddle quite a bit. Even so, I find it to be really comfortable and not distracting."
The Raider Pack proved to be super popular beyond cycling as well. To meet the growing demand, we created versions for a wider range of uses.
"To celebrate the serious addiction to cycling and a love for the community around it, the minds behind Mission Cycling and Timbuk2 created the ideal backpack for daily commutes to and from work."
